We went camping(attended a Winnebago Rally) for out birthday weekend and Gerald collapsed on his birthday. Update on Gerald- Dr Grob and his truly amazing team at VCU operated on Wednesday morning until early afternoon. The cancer mass was extremely large and had to be "peeled" off his liver and back, he removed the kidney, adrenal, surrounding lymph, the clot at the vena cava (which thankfully did not require vascular reconstruction but the vascular team was in the OR and ready). Dr Grob said he got everything he could see. Ger has pain but is following orders, he sat in the chair yesterday -they may have him walk a few steps today. Last night he was "downgraded" from STICU to Acute Surgical Care.
Nancy & Bo have been wonderful through all of this, they have been my support, as well as Gers, all the way. It was happenstance that their vacation (planned months ago) wound up being a short distance from our campground and they were at the campground when Ger collapsed. Bo got rescue and recorded everything so he could tell the rescue and ER docs what happened. I felt badly that this ruined their vacation but they said it was meant for them to be there for this situation, Bo has really helped Ger to look forward and do what he needs to when he really does not want to. Nancy holds me up and keeps me going- I'm blessed.
Thank you everyone for your prayers and well wishes.
